Who is behind it

Sindre Pedersen runs this guide. He lives in Leknes, in the middle of Lofoten, and builds the site in his own time. It is not run by a tourism board, a tour operator or a booking platform.

This is a commercial site: businesses can pay for a labelled Featured slot. Norwegian law (ehandelsloven) therefore requires the operator to be identifiable, so here is the postal address.

What this guide is, and is not

It is a collection of facts: opening hours, seasons, prices, coordinates and how to get there, gathered from the businesses themselves, from official and public sources and from our own checking. Every description is written in our own words.

It is not a review site. There are no star ratings and no reviews of businesses. It does not copy text or photos from other websites, and it does not sell data about you.

Businesses can pay for visibility, but they cannot pay for better descriptions, for the removal of facts or for a place in the ordinary list.

Facts and provenance

Each listing shows where its facts came from and when they were last checked: “Confirmed by the business” with a date when the business confirmed them, otherwise “Checked by Lofoten Now” with a date. That tells you how fresh they are.

If you see an error, every place page has a “Report an error” link that opens an e-mail with the listing already filled in. Corrections and removals are handled within 24 hours, for free and paid listings alike.

Sources and licences

Live conditions come from public data providers. The exact list in use, with the licence for each, is shown on the Now page and changes if we add or drop a source.

The map outline is drawn from Natural Earth data (public domain), packaged in the world-atlas project. Værøy and Røst are too small for that data set, so they are drawn schematically. Listing facts name their own source on each place page.

How paid content is labelled

Paid placement is always labelled “Featured · paid placement”. A list has at most two such slots at the top; the ordinary list below them is ranked the same way for everyone. Booking links that earn us a commission are marked as affiliate links and carry rel="sponsored nofollow". Sample businesses used while the site is under construction are marked Demo.

Privacy

No cookies, no analytics scripts and no external fonts or scripts. While you browse, the page only fetches our own live conditions file. Your theme choice and season choice stay in your own browser.

When you click a Website or Book button on a listing, we count that click on our own server (time, listing, button, phone or computer) before sending you on. No IP address or identifier is stored.
